Taipei 2013

Happy New Year guys! Hope you all had a great holiday!

I had a last minute trip to Taipei and spent my new year countdown there. Never been there before though it’s very close to Hong Kong. Truly touched with the friendliness and sincerity of the people there.

If you’ve been to 101, this was how it looked like on the countdown night… the wide roads were all people!

One of my favorite things to do when traveling is visiting the artsy places and this MOT CASA group is one of the great places to visit if you like art, installation, and furniture stuff.

Loving this red wheat field installation right outside of the MOT furniture shop! Please excuse my pictures though, they were all taken with hyper-ed shaky hands with my iPhone

They stock various designers’ pieces of different styles, e.g. Tom Dixon, placed at their own specific corners of the showroom.

Want some horse hair rugs?

There are different shops by MOT, featuring different designers/brands. But they are all close to each other, walkable distance within 15mins.

MOT not only has furniture shop, they have art galleries and restaurant as well.

This is one of my favorites – Taiwan city emerging into a Chinese mountain landscape, in motion.

Deeplay is my choice of shop in Taipei, in the hip Dunhua South Road. You can find niche fashion brands such as Injury, Ann Sofie Back, and Studio Pi in there.

Do walk around the area if you like street fashion. Lots of nice surprises!

The HuaShan 1914 Creative Park is a very nice pleasant place to relax and walk around. Formerly a brewery, it was transformed into an art space for exhibitions, with nice tea house and coffee shops around. Art exhibitions that were on were not extremely exciting, but it’s totally worth going just to have a feel of the great space.

If you are big fan of hot springs, I would highly recommend Villa 32 (part of the Relais Chateaux Group) in Beitou. It is located in a slightly hidden driveway, away from the other local public hot springs.

The Restaurant in Villa 32 has a very simple menu but truly awesome food!

Gold flake gin tonic

Love love love these gigantic scallops!!!

So this is the private hot spring room, looking like a big bathroom. If you can book in advance, do try to book and stay overnight for a hot spring in the hotel guest room. It would be a totally different experience!

Try to have a drink outdoors after the hot spring and you can totally feel super warm from deep inside when it’s cold out there.

Can’t wait to go back again next winter!
