Non-liquid Mouth Wash for Travelers

French entrepreneur Mathieu has long been a global citizen. After years of living in the air, he is now settled in San Francisco and launching The Flying Alchemist – his label of travel essential products for the jet setters.


  1. How did you get inspired to create products for The Flying Alchemist?

I’ve been based in San Francisco for 3 years now, though I just came back from nearly 6 months in England. I’ve lived in Chicago and France the rest of my life.

I travel a lot between the US, Europe and Asia, so I was growing frustrated with always leaving some toiletries behind when traveling because of the liquids restrictions at airports, I decided to look for a solution. And when I couldn’t find any, I decided to build one myself.

  1. Could you please explain the name of the brand?

The flying part is in reference to the target audience, we cater to people who travel by air, so the name needed a nod to those who live in the sky like I do. The Alchemist part is a reference to our creative process and the idea to make products by mixing various ingredients together. We use only natural ingredients but it still feels like I’m a mad scientist when I’m in my kitchen at night weighting various powders and making potions to test myself.

  1. What are your top three travel essentials?

Besides prototypes of our mouthwash…

#1 Noise cancelling headphones, I feel so much more rested after a flight now that I found the right pair to help against the noise.

#2 Plug converter, I have 4 or 5 of these, just got a new one that folds flat to maybe half an inch thick, essential for any international trip.

#3 Collapsible water bottle, it’s flat like a few sheets of paper when empty, but can fill up with half a liter.

  1. Which is your favorite place on earth?

Probably New Zealand, I’d hike every trail I could find, but I‘d pack my own shipping container with food and beer because I was not impressed with the eating and drinking options last time I went.

  1. Describe yourself in three words.

Creative, relentless, impatient.

  1. Where do you see your business in the coming 5 years?

Hopefully in every airport convenience store, and with 3 to 5 other products, we’re already working on a shaving cream under the same general idea of natural and non liquid ingredients.
