I have been to Bangkok a few times and this city simply doesn’t stop in terms of design and craft. It has always been a heaven for all lifestyle activities, and you can never get bored of all the themed cafes, shopping malls, and their support for local designs. For my love and respect for craftsman of all kinds, I have discovered a few Bangkok denim labels who specialise in custom-designs which are worth a mention: Viapiana and Selvedgework Jeans

Viapiana – Denim made-to-measure
Custom denim specialist Ben Viapiana grew up under the influence of his father, who was a tailor in Italy. The label is their family name, and he continued with the borderless world of “custom anything” with his love of denim. Now based in Bangkok, he has his own workshop for producing made-to-measure denim pieces one-by-one, all by himself. He prefers to use old machines for sewing as well, which gives an authentic touch.
You can choose your preferred fit, type and weight of denim (there are no stretch denim available though), stitch color, button fly or zipper, and other custom details like patches, button and rivet colors. It will take about 10 business days for production. Contact Ben to make an appointment here or visit his website for ordering online (yes, he will be there to answer all your questions and guide you through the measuring process). You can browse his works on his FB and IG.

Selvedgework Jeans – Jeans with custom detail options online
This label is also focusing on denim, but with a heavier stress on the international appeal with their online custom store and less of a personal touch with the tailor/maker. The team behind is a local denim manufacturer set up since 1985, with a stress on high quality fabrics imported from US and Japan and a renowned craftsmanship from the experience of mass production over the years.
You can choose the fabrics, color of threads, pocket lining, button and rivet color coatings, and fit, all within their options provided. But I guess any other “custom” designs might not be added as I don’t see a box to fill in at the customising webpage, apart from the laser tag option for you to put texts on the inner pocket (see photo below).
These photos showing here is the pair that I have designed (kind of) online. It looks pretty good, and they provide free international shipping for any orders over USD200. If you know your friend’s size, it can make a good gift!
Alternatively, you can get yourself measured and choose all the details at their store: Siam Square 2 Alley, Rama I Rd, Pathumwan, Khet Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500
See this map for the locations of the mentioned labels. You can download this map into your Google Map (desktop) here.
You can decide on what kind of surprises you like from these custom productions. One with a very personal interaction where you get to chat with the maker, while the other visualises everything for you online before you order. After all, that’s the new kind of personalisation, right?
